Dato' (Dr) K.S. Sivananthan is a distinguished orthopaedic spine surgeon whose career spans over four decades. His journey began at Methodist Boys' School, Kuala Lumpur, and was shaped by an unwavering pursuit of excellence. He earned his Primary and Final F.R.C.S. from Edinburgh, followed by a Master of Orthopaedic Surgery (M.Ch.) from the University of Liverpool, where he was awarded the Norman Roberts Medal for the best M.Ch. Orthopaedic thesis — a testament to his academic brilliance. Throughout his career, Dato' (Dr) Sivananthan has played a pivotal role in advancing orthopaedic and spine surgery, holding leadership positions in several prestigious associations. He has served as President of the Malaysian Orthopaedic Association (1991-1992), ASEAN Orthopaedic Association (1991-1992), Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association (2001-2004), World Society for Endoscopic, Navigated and Minimal Invasive Spine Surgery (WENMISS) (2008-2009), Malaysian Spine Society (2015-2017), and Asia Pacific Spine Society (2017-2019).
